Meet the South Texas Health System Heart bariatric surgeons:
Luis Reyes, MD, FACS, FASMBS
Dr. Luis Reyes is the Medical Director of Bariatrics at South Texas Health System Heart and specializes in general vascular and bariatric surgery. He is a fellow at the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, and has been performing surgery for over three decades. Dr. Reyes received his formal training at The Ohio State University Medical Center where he studied advanced laparoscopic procedures, including weight-loss surgery.
Ernesto Garza, Jr., MD, FACS
A native Texan with strong family ties to the Rio Grande Valley, Dr. Garza Jr., MD, FACS has served the medical needs of his community for over a decade. Formally trained in advanced laparoscopic procedures and general surgery, and specializes in weight-loss surgery. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Garza completed his surgical training at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. The American Journal of Surgery has published Dr. Garza’s work in laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery.
